About the photographer

Sabrina Komár is a visual artist based in Hungary, where she expands, crosses, and deconstructs genre and media boundaries through experimentation.

Her artistic journey is unconventional and deeply personal, often described as a coping strategy. Komár’s works, inspired by her own history and emotions, manifest as self-portraits and internal monologues across various forms and techniques. She employs a diverse range of analog and digital methods, from archaic photographic techniques to digital image manipulation. Additionally, she integrates manual processes such as sewing, cutting, folding, and weaving, which bridge the gap between photography and fine art, adding a spatial dimension to her pieces.

In her project …but so many good things happened to you!, Komár explores the phenomenon of why positive memories are often overshadowed by negative ones. She investigates this through family photographs in which she appears or has taken, aiming to uncover forgotten positive memories. As she cuts, folds, and weaves these images, both manual and spiritual transformations occur. She discovers that pure, happy memories are elusive; the longer she engages with a photograph, the more the future of that moment shatters with the weight of its past.

Komár holds an MA in Textile Design from Budapest, where her award-winning diploma project pointed towards experimental photography. She has since gained several international accolades, recently becoming a finalist in the LensCulture Art Photography Awards 2024 and having her first solo exhibition in Budapest.
