About the photographer

Andrés Gallego is a visual artist from Spain and currently lives and works in Castellón de la Plana. As a law graduate, he has found in photography a form of personal expression, which allows him to project his concerns in a creative way.

He is a creative photographer known for constructing intricate, hand-crafted scenes from scratch, blending photography with the aesthetics of classical painting. His work explores themes of solitude, light, and space, often drawing inspiration from painters. Gallego's unique process involves designing and painting sets, capturing the subtle interplay between silence and presence. Through his photography, he invites viewers into a reflective dialogue, where the gaze of the viewer and existentialist play a key role. 

With this project, the possibility of approaching photography from the point of view of painting is explored. On the other hand, the choice of subject matter beyond the inspiration in Hammershøi's work, refers to what Jean-Paul Sartre addresses in the context of his existentialist philosophy. Sartre suggests our authentic 'self' is revealed when we are alone and face our true nature without the pressures and expectations of others.

Andrés Gallego had several exhibitions with his previous project "Hopper Essence" across major cities, including Berlin, Amsterdam, Paris, Madrid, Tokyo, Sienna and Sydney. He has been awarded for both his photographs and paintings. Most recently, he received a Siena Creative Photo Award and a XVII Fundación ENAIRE Photography Prize.
