About the photographer

Norberto Pezzotta is a photographer born in Bergamo, Italy, in November 1970. After pursuing studies in Economics, he transitioned into the creative realm of photography, exploring the concept of beauty in all its nuances. His work increasingly focuses on the relationship between real and artificial aesthetics. 

Having spent years in commercial photography striving for perfection to meet client expectations, Pezzotta has developed a growing need to embrace freedom and spontaneity in his artistic practice. The photography studio, once a space filled with tension and the pursuit of flawless results, has transformed into a sanctuary for exploration and listening. His black and white photography captures the authentic essence of the stories he aims to tell, influenced by Marina Abramović’s introspection and the minimalist aesthetic of great photographers like Luigi Ghirri. 

In the Photography Prize Exhibition, Pezzotta presents Augmented Unreality, a project that examines beauty in the age of artificial intelligence. He generates images through AI based on specific creative prompts, which are then printed and integrated into his studio space alongside real models. This project reflects on the importance of preserving an inclusive and diverse vision of beauty, emphasising the necessity for new definitions that represent human variety in an era where technology reshapes our aesthetic standards. 

Pezzotta’s work has been showcased in numerous exhibitions, including LightLand at Casa dell'Artista in Milan (October 2022), a personal exhibition at Design House in Bergamo (Normal Anomalies, December 2022), and an upcoming show at ImageNation Paris (May 2024) featuring Fallen. Additionally, Augmented Unreality has been selected as a Jurors' Pick for LensCulture’s Black and White Awards 2024 (October 2024).
