About the photographer

Nora Obergeschwandner is a Vienna-based photographer who studied at FH Joanneum University of Applied Sciences in Graz. She has participated in mentoring programs with photographic artists Marcel Köhler and Laura Pannack. Her focus lies in portrait photography and social documentary work. 

Obergeschwandner’s work delves into the complex dynamics between individuals and society, exploring themes of intimacy, distance, and attachment. By blending documentary and staged photography, she unveils the subtle, often invisible layers of human relationships. Her approach 

embraces ambiguity and fragility, reflecting the richness of the unsettling aspects of human interaction. Currently, she focuses on anxiety disorders, aiming to raise awareness of these conditions and foster understanding for those affected. 

In the Photography Prize Exhibition, Obergeschwandner presents her project In Between, an artistic exploration of intimacy, distance, and attachment in relationships. The work examines the vulnerability required for true closeness and how attachment patterns shape our interactions. It reflects on the origins of these behaviours, revealing the complex nature of human connection. 

Obergeschwandner’s work has been exhibited in group shows across London, Leicester, Berlin, Munich, Arles, Poland, Graz, and India this year (2024).
