About the 2023 edition
Guess who’s back? For the 8th year, the BBA Artist Prize will once again be breaking barriers and building careers for emerging international artists. 22 diverse and talented artists have been selected for this year’s exhibition at Kühlhaus Berlin. In partnership with Fleurop, Deeds News, PixOnWall and Kühlhaus Berlin, the BBA Artist Prize is an unmissable competition and the perfect way to celebrate Gallery Weekend Berlin. From textile art through to gun barrels turned into wind instruments, this year’s edition of the BBA Artist Prize will be packed with discoveries of some of the most talented artists in the world. Brought to you exclusively by BBA.
On Saturday 29 April at 20:00, our acclaimed jury will announce the winners of the prizes. Along with the usual three prizes (a solo show + cash awards), this year the top three prize winners will have an exhibition opportunity at CSR (Contemporary Show Room) in Friedrichstraße Berlin and published interviews on the Deeds Online Newspaper.
Last year’s winner Katarina Kudelova will also be featured at the exhibition, as well as live performers.

2023 Winners
László Máthé
1st Prize was awarded to László Máthé from Romania. His paintings are focused on psychological subjects as he uses his art as a playground of his subconscious. He is fascinated by human anatomy and by the classic painting representations which are used in almost all of his works.
Pedram Baldari
2nd Prize was awarded to Pedram Baldari from the US. His intermedia practice explores statelessness versus citizenship, modes of colonialism, displacement-immigration, and conflict. His work is increasingly informed and captured by the element of sound.
Glen Ogden
Joint 3rd Prize was awarded to Glen Ogden from the UK. His socially engaged practice explores the role of the working man in historic and contemporary society through performance and film - imbued with a sculptural understanding of space, time and locality. He seeks to emphasise the work, rest, work, rest mantra of our time through repetitive and cyclical structures that evidence the physical manifestation of humans as tools.
Dior Thiam
Joint 3rd Prize was awarded to Dior Thiam from Germany. Throughout broadly different mediums, she explores untold histories, exoticism and the specific historical knowledge held by social and individual bodies. Drawing inspiration from historical events and occurrences, from poetry, prose and personal experiences, her work raises questions around the localities of knowledge as well as memory and remembrance.
Anouk Koch
The Audience Award was awarded to Anouk Koch from Switzerland. Koch's artistic practice revolves around the themes of social pressure, abuse of power, and various dynamics in interpersonal relationships. By combining text fragments with a carrier, she explores the boundaries between pain and fun.
