RICHARD P JONES
ABOUT THE ARTIST
BORN IN THE UNITED KINGDOM
LIVES AND WORKS IN BIRCHGROVE, UNITED KINGDOM
Richard P Jones is an audio-visual journalist and visual artist whose practice centers on the mechanics of contemporary life and the intersections of the physical and digital worlds. Working across images, video, soundscapes, and 3D data clouds, Jones explores the "liminal zone"—spaces and time structures invisible to the naked eye. His work often investigates the daily rhythm of the global metropolis, as well as the physiognomy and memory of specific social groups, such as his extensive documentation of Welsh coal miners.
His ongoing project, ‘City Scans’, utilizes high-speed video to capture the movement of commuters and transportation systems in cities including Tokyo, Berlin, London, Hong Kong, and Istanbul. By reconstructing footage into layered time structures, Jones reveals the pulse of the contemporary metropolis through a precise, pop-art-style aesthetic. Printed onto brushed aluminium, these square artworks emphasize the mechanical and automated quality of 21st-century urban life. Alongside this, his collaborative project with Chieko Jones, ‘I Was There’, continues his exploration of the convergence of time and place through color gradations.
Jones’s career is distinguished by numerous high-profile international accolades, including three Amnesty International Human Rights Press Awards and a finalist position in the National Lottery Awards UK. His work has been featured in major exhibitions such as NordArt 2025 in Germany, the Saatchi Gallery in London, and the Museum of Wales. A veteran observer of global shifts, his photography and installations have been published in world-leading outlets including The New York Times, Stern, The Guardian, and Time Magazine.
