ABOUT THE ARTIST
BORN IN POLAND
LIVES AND WORKS IN WARSAW, POLAND
Kasia Słania is a visual artist whose practice explores the fragile space between control and surrender. A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, her work is informed by a precise eye for composition developed over two decades as an art director. Słania views paper not merely as a surface but as an active, physical partner—an immediate and unforgiving medium that anchors her tactile, instinctive process.
Her latest practice, the series ‘Grasses’, comprises three mixed-media works on paper that examine a congruence of place and time. In this series, the artist uses graphite, oil pastel, and graffiti ink to trace a protagonist who gradually dissolves into the landscape. Works such as ‘Grasses-Tensed’ and ‘Grasses-Last’ capture the shifting rules of late summer light—moving from vibrant ochre to a lower, heavier focus. Through gestural marks and dense textures, she transforms an ordinary moment into a meditation on change and memory, exploring how a figure can blend into its surroundings until the boundaries of identity become indistinct.
Słania’s artistic language merges drawing and painting, characterized by thick lines, vibrant colors, and a raw emotional clarity. Her inspiration is drawn from the bold textiles of her childhood in industrial Bytom and the energetic contradictions of everyday life. Having exhibited early in her career in both Poland and Germany, her current work remains deeply interested in the "unsaid"—how fragments, smears, or drifting letters can hold the weight of an unfinished thought, inviting the viewer to find meaning in the spaces in between.
