ALEXANDRA SMIETANA

ABOUT THE ARTIST

BORN IN POLAND

LIVES AND WORKS IN WARSAW, POLAND

Alexandra Smietana is a sculptor whose practice bridges fine arts, art therapy, and psychology. A graduate with honors from both the Maria Grzegorzewska University and the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, she studied under masters such as Professor Adam Myjak. Smietana’s work is rooted in a profound dedication to figuration, exploring the expressive potential of sculptural form through the lens of emotional depth and human vulnerability.

Her latest practice, titled ‘Sensitiveness’, is a planned series of ten bas-reliefs that examine touch as a primary form of seeing and remembering. The foundation of this cycle, a work titled ‘Tenderness’, captures the delicate imprints of human contact: the subtle pressure of fingers and the gentle movement of skin across material. Through organic elevations and depressions in resin and bronze, Smietana creates an intimate, bodily landscape where ephemeral traces are preserved as emotional records. This tactile-visual language serves as a form of silent communication, transforming micro-movements into lasting imprints of presence.

Smietana’s distinguished career includes international recognition and placements in prestigious collections, such as the Museu Europeu d'Art Modern (MEAM) in Barcelona. Her work has been exhibited globally at venues including The Garrison Chapel in London, the Biennale of Sculpture in Warsaw, and Red Dot Miami. With a background that integrates artistic rigor with psychological insight, Smietana continues to challenge the boundaries of contemporary sculpture, asserting the power of subtle gestures to reveal the invisible complexities of the human condition.
