BBA Photography Prize 2025

Applicants must read and agree to all aspects of this page.
Applicants must be over 18 years of age to enter the competition.
There are no restrictions based on theme, training or nationality.
The application fee for the submissions are set on the website and are non-refundable.
You will receive an invoice for your entry fee via email after you made your payment.
Artists/photographers must not have exclusive representation with another gallery but can have non-exclusive contracts. All work submitted must be available for consignment with BBA.
Applicants must be the owner and the work(s) submitted are of their own origination. The artist/photographer must hold all moral and intellectual property rights. The applicant will be responsible for any claim made by any third party in respect of the entry and to fully indemnify BBA and its sponsors in respect of all royalties, fees and any other monies owing to any person or entity by reason of your breaching any of the foregoing. BBA reserves the right to disqualify any entry that does not comply with any of the above.
The image submitted must accurately portray the artwork/photographic work. The information and size given in the application form must be the size and format available for the exhibition.
BBA reserves the right to reject applications of work that are deemed unsuitable for exhibition, be it explicit or antagonising, at our discretion.
By entering, applicants confirm to have all art work ready and available by the end of the open call . It must be ready to send according to the curatorial decision and arrive on time.
Production costs of the artworks including frames and shipping has to be covered by the artists/photographers.
Curation will be done by BBA Gallery. Production and presentation format will be agreed between curators and the finalists. The applicant agrees to the presentation options outlined on the BBA website. (i.e. digital display or exhibition spot).
BBA will take payment from the buyer of the artwork and, once payment is received, will pay the artist 50% on total sale price. Gallery will receive 50% commission of the price.
The artist/photographer agrees to a consistent retail price. ie. no matter where the artwork is sold, it always has the same retail price.
If shortlisted, we recommend that the artist/photographer takes out an insurance to cover the artwork during transportation. The art work is only insured during the exhibition by BBA.
We respect your rights and do not claim copyright for artworks/photographs submitted. The artist/photographer will retain full copyright. By uploading your artworks/photographic work, you hereby consent that BBA Gallery and partners of the Prizes can use the images for the promotion on social media via organic and paid advertising and on print advertising materials such as flyers and posters. When possible BBA will try to tag your full name or your social media account next to your work on BBA paid and organic social media channels. Your image might be used for promotion of either you as the artist or for a BBA promotion of current and future projects.
Applicants acknowledge your responsibility for protecting your entry against misuse by third parties, through means such as the embedding of metadata. BBA (and its partners) can assume no responsibility and is not liable for any misuse of your work by third parties.
The applicant gives permission that images/photos taken from and during the opening and the exhibition can be used for current and future promotion by the gallery and our partners.
The applicant hereby grants BBA a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence in each entry throughout the world in all media for the uses described above.
The applicant agrees that their email data will be used by BBA and their sponsors to inform them about future opportunities, updates and news.
BBA reserves the right to change, or modify the prize or jury members at any time before the end of the award, but will make sure to inform all applicants
The applicant agrees to the final decision made by the Jury and the BBA Gallery. The judges decision is final.
If selected for exhibition, the applicant must complete and return forms, arrange shipping and collection of artworks/photographic works by the deadlines set by BBA. We will pack the artwork after the exhibition, ready for collection or posting. Additional costs are to be covered by the artist and will be invoiced.
By entering work into the open call, applicants agree to be contacted at any point pre and during the exhibition. Please ensure you provide us with correct email addresses and telephone numbers and notify us should these change
The applicant agrees to try their best to be present during the opening events
Shortlisted applicants will be required to read carefully and agree to an additional exhibition participation agreement detailing their obligations for being shortlisted/exhibited and promoted. This will be sent out after nomination. The applicant must sign a separate exhibition participation agreement to be part of the 10 Year exhibition in Kühlhaus.
The winner will receive a separate contract for the solo shows.
Artsy profile winners will receive a separate consignment list and agreement after winning to have the works from the Prize consigned for a further 12 months.
Prize money must be invoiced after the exhibition. First prize winners will be able to invoice half the amount to take away, and half the amount later towards production costs for their solo show.
BBA can not accept any entries without correct submission or after the deadline.
BBA operates under and obliges by German law for tax-related and legal matters.
Final submission deadline is the 10th of February midnight 2025.
Relatives of the jury members, gallery employees or any artists/photographer already represented by the BBA Gallery cannot apply.
